Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of Policies, strategies, development programs and projects, rules and regulations Prepared by the sector are in line with international and regional conventions and agreements that Ethiopia has adopted and ratified in relation to women, children, and youth issues,

  • Develops a strategy to identify areas of work that will Enhance participation and Benefit youth and women in the agriculture sector, and monitors its implementation

  • Prepares a project proposal to enhance the participation and benefits of women and youth in development, submits it to the relevant body, monitors its implementation, prepares a timetable for evaluation, and designs a strategy for taking corrective action;

  • Develops/improves implementation frameworks/manuals/guidelines to mainstream women, children and youth issues in programs and projects implemented in the sector;

  • The office provides close monitoring and support to children in rural areas, educates them on protecting their rights, and creates awareness to ensure that their human rights are properly protected.

  • Women Economic Empowerment and leadership: - the office work to enhance the Women Economic empowerment Program and Leadership in collaboration with Program and Projects implemented by Ministry of Agriculture

  • Develop new systems to include/mainstream women, children, and youth issues in sector plans, monitor and evaluate implementation, identify gaps through research, and devise appropriate solutions.

  • Generate creative ideas, design and implement practices Based on national, continental and international experiences for the participation and benefit of women, children and youth;

  • Conducts various studies and research activities related to the benefits of women, children and youth, within the scope of the sector's functions and responsibilities, and participates in joint studies with other departments.

  • Develop a standardized training manual that incorporates international and continental experiences and takes into account national circumstances to mainstream women's and children's issues at all levels in the sector;

  • Generate Sex and Gender Disaggregated data. This is the critical Steps to mainstream Gender in different aspects

  • Monitoring and Evaluation, Technical Supports to Departments, Program and Projects Affiliated Institutions, Regional and Woreda Bureau of Agriculture

  • Capacity Building Training to Concerned Bodies and Implement Gender Transformative approach and to enhance the implementation capacity of the agriculture sector from federal to lower administrative structure.

  • The office designs a strategy to identify areas of work that will create job opportunities for youth and women in the sector, and monitor its implementation;

  • The office monitor the implementation of the sector to identify areas of work that will create job opportunities for youth and women.

  • Establishing/Strengthen Networks and Forum at Different levels like ENGEA (Ethiopian Network of Gender Equality in Agriculture and Women Forum.
